About Em Lewin

All of this began with a discovery in 2020. Buried in archives were the testimonies of my grandparents, Ruti and Mordechai, Jewish Romanian Holocaust survivors who kept their secrets of their lives, experience and survival for decades while building a life of quiet, determined pride in Australia. Finding those testimonies changed everything. The silence that had always hung over our family, the one thing that never quite made sense, suddenly couldn't remain silenced.

My book, about them, the Price of Bread will be available to purchase in early 2017. Never did I think I'd ever write a book, the path here was an unlikely one. Degrees in Psychology and Marketing from Monash University, and twenty years in senior leadership at Coles, Heinz, Bunnings, WPP and MARS, were never supposed to lead to a Holocaust non-fiction narrative. But that background shaped everything, the ability to understand trauma and human complexity, to synthesise mountains of information and find the story within it.
